Unorthodox Conversations with a Hebrew Man

Answering Emmanuel Acho’s queries from Scripture

Our dear brother Emmanuel Acho entertained some very pertinent and thought-provoking inquiries in his inaugural episode of “Uncomfortable Conversations with a Black Man”. As a man of Israelite descent, a practitioner of Torah, and a student of Rabbi Yahshua by the grace of Yahweh, I would like to engage these queries, as well.

Abba, may those that have ears to hear, let them hear.

Let the healing begin.

Why are you all rioting?

A nation unknown to you will eat the fruit of your land and labor. Yes you will be continually oppressed and crushed, till you go crazy from what your eyes have to see. (Deuteronomy 28:33–34, CJB)

King Shelomoh ben Dawid also says the following:

Surely oppression drives the wise into madness, and a bribe corrupts the heart. (Ecclesiastes 7:7, ESV)

First, let’s contextualize the question. I personally, am not rioting. By “you all”, I believe the target demographic being referred to here are the Hebrews; the children of Israel, whom the world currently calls “blacks”, which is a byword. A misnomer.

Hebrews who are avid partisans of the Black Lives Matter movement, are rioting/looting, because presently, they aren’t cognizant of the root of our oppressed condition. Dear brother Emmanuel says that if white people are your problem, then white people are your solution. Torah disagrees with this. White people are not my problem. White people are not the problem. White people are not the root cause of Hebrew oppression in America and beyond. For Torah says:

But if you refuse to pay attention to what Adonai your God says, and do not observe and obey all His [commandments] and regulations which I am giving you today, then all the following curses will be yours in abundance. (Deuteronomy 28:15, CJB)

Some, not all, are rioting and looting because, the curses. My Hebrew people are fatigued of being habitually oppressed and crushed, per Deuteronomy 28:33, 34. This verse also says you will go crazy from what your eyes have to see. The optics of the curses, generationally, will cause us children of Israel to be driven to despair; driven to desperation. The visuals of seeing Hebrew bodies being slain; over, and over, and over again, sends a message. A message that Hebrew life doesn’t have as much premium, as a Gentile lives, This message is erroneous and false at every level.

For some, just seeing the still photo of the officer’s knee on George Floyd’s neck, was evocative enough.

This “going crazy” can be expressed through desperate acts like rioting and looting, which I conjecture, is galvanized by ire. For who riots and loots when they’re happy? Who riots when they’re at peace? Yes, I think this can also mean having poor mental health, which is seldomly, if ever, openly discussed in the Hebrew community. With Yah’s help, this will change. Surely, oppression can drive the wise one into madness.

Why do you think white privilege exists?

This is a very interesting question to me. Was white privilege extant in Biblical times? Did the Greeks and Romans occupying my ancestral homeland of Israel, have white privilege? Or is white privilege a relatively new innovation? Is white privilege international? Or is white privilege only exclusive to whites in the Occident? One dictionary definition of white privilege is as follows:

Inherent advantages possessed by a white person on a basis of their race in a society characterized by racial inequality and injustice.

Yes. I believe white privilege does exist. It’s a thing. I think white privilege exists for the same reason male privilege exists. Sin. Violations of Torah engender a society characterized by injustice and racial inequality, which perpetuate white privilege. Violations of Yah’s Torah curate a society marked by misogyny, which perpetuates male privilege.

However, with this articulated, I believe it is an unparalled and sublime privilege, to worship God Almighty Yahweh. I agree with the words Shaul wrote to the Ephesian Believers regarding this:

Praised be Adonai, Father of our Lord Yahshua the Messiah, who in the Messiah has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in heaven. (Ephesians 1:3, CJB)

Also, consider this Hebrew Psalm:

A psalm of Asaf:

How good God is to Isra’el, to those who are pure in heart! But as for me, I lost my balance, my feet nearly slipped, when I grew envious of the arrogant and saw how the wicked prosper. For when their death comes, it is painless; and meanwhile, their bodies are healthy; they don’t have ordinary people’s troubles, they aren’t plagued like others.

If I had said. “I will talk like them,” I would have betrayed a generation of Your children. When I tried to understand all this, I found it too hard for me — until I went to the sanctuaries of God and grasped what their destiny would be. Indeed, you place them on a slippery slope and make them fall to their ruin. (Psalm 73:1–5, 15–18, CJB)

If there is anyone out there reading this that says: “Golly gee, I wish I were white. My life would be so much easier,” I would like to encourage you. Yahweh created you perfectly, exactly as He intended. The ethnicity and gender you were born into, is not a mistake. The Omnicompetent God Yahweh chose it for you.

Asaf grew envious of the wicked. Perhaps Asaf believed that the wicked had certain…privileges. Yet in the end, Asaf sobers up, seeing the destiny of the wicked/lawless. Their privileges aren’t salvational, and they certainly don’t earn them an easy pass into Yah’s Kingdom.

How come black people can say the “N-word”, but we can’t?

Who can bring what is pure from something impure? (No one! Job 14:4, CJB)

You make us a byword among the nations; the peoples jeer at us, shaking their heads. (Psalm 44:14, CJB)

In my Hebrew opinion, no one should say the N-word. No one. Hebrews or Gentiles. Saying it with an “a” or “hard r”, is not an erasure of it’s original meaning. The N-word is a byword. It’s a pejorative, that’s inextricably rooted in white supremacy, dehumanization, racism, hatred, xenophobia, and slavery. It would behoove us all should retire it from our vocabulary and vernacular, in perpetuity.

How come black people care more about white on black crime, than black on black crime?

Do not murder. (Exodus 20:13, CJB)

Hear the word of Adonai, people of Isra’el! For Adonai has a grievance against the inhabitants of the land; there is no truth, no faithful love or knowledge of God in the land; only swearing and lying, killing and stealing and committing adultery! They break all bounds, with one blood crime following another. (Hosea 4:1–2, CJB)

The man who is the most tender and refined among you will begrudge food to his brother, to the wife he embraces, and to the last of the children whom he has left. (Deuteronomy 28:54, CJB)

First and foremost, murder is wrong. Whether it’s an intraracial or interracial homicide, both are infractions of Torah. Also, I think the presupposition of this query is false. If the cop had been a Hebrew like George Floyd, I believe there would still be a visceral reaction. People would still care. Humans would care. I also posit that the media cares more about interracial crime stories. Perhaps they has more a polarizing, divisive effect. Perhaps it’s better for ratings. “What about Chicago, Yoel? Also known as Chiraq?” Chicagoans of Israelite descent also need to repent from making sin into their lifestyle. Us Hebrews as a nation, need to repent from our Torahlessness to God.

Why are y’all saying Black Lives Matter, when All Lives Matter?

“I take no pleasure in the death of anyone who dies,” says Adonai Elohim, “so turn yourselves around, and live!” (Ezekiel 18:32, CJB)

If God Almighty Yah doesn’t take pleasure in the death of anyone who dies, should we? Should I rejoice at the death of Hitler? Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi? How about Osama bin Laden? Or a member of the Ku Klux Klan? A democrat? A republican? A police officer? A president? Another human being in general?

Shimon bar Yonah says the following:

The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise, as some people think of slowness; on the contrary, He is patient with you; for it is not His purpose that anyone should be destroyed, but that everyone should turn from his sins. (2nd Peter 3:9, CJB)

Yes. All lives matter. All souls matter. Especially to Yah our Creator. Simultaneously, at this moment, even previously, Israelites, my people, are suffering the covenant curses for violating the Torah Covenant of our God. For Yahweh says that He will discipline us seven times over for our sins. Per Leviticus 26:14-15,18. Also, please consider this. If someone says, “We need to protect ourselves from Covid-19”, then someone else counters with, “But what about AIDS? What about diabetes? What about the common cold? All maladies matter!” Articulating that the lives of a specific ethnicity has value, does not depreciate the lives of other ethnic groups. Does that make sense?

How can I help? How can I stand with you?

Don’t stand with me. Stand with Yahweh, my God. Stand with Rabbi Yahshua, The Messiah, and Savior of all humanity. Stand with Torah. Let my people know who they are. Israel. Let them know Whose they are. For we belong to Yahweh, The God of Israel; and His remedies are everlasting.

Lover of Yahweh. Disciple of Rabbi Yahshua The Messiah. Israelite man. Reader of The Hebrew Bible. Writer.
